Bluewater Sharks Tournament
May 30 - June 1

The 99 Bluewater Major Novice Sharks completed their spring season at the Shark Tournament over the weekend.  They played their best hockey against the best competition they have faced.

In the opening game against Compuware the Sharks were beaten 3-2 in a nail biter.
The Sharks opened the scoring 30 seconds in on a goal by Max Steeves on a feed from Jared Pageau.
Compuware tied it 3 minutes later and took a 2-1 lead early in the 2nd period.
Jared Pageau tied it 2-2 late in the 2nd on an unassisted goal.
Compuware scored the game winner with 3 minutes left to go in the game and with the goalie pulled the Sharks swarmed the net only to have the goalie make a remarkable save to thwart the Shark effort.
Emma McCormick was solid in net.

In the second game of the day the Bluewater team faced the Cleveland Jr. Jacks and skated to a well deserved 8-3 victory.  Jared Pageau paced the Shark attack with 3 goals and 2 assists.
Cameron Rannie had 2 goals with singles going to Josh Barraclough, Elijah Contreras and Tyler Hotham. Adding assists were Max Steeves with 2, Barraclough, Nash Nienhuis and Cade Robbins. Emma McCormick was in net again as Pat Kelly was recouping from the chicken pox.

Saturday morning the Sharks faced the Plymouth Stingrays in what was the most exciting game of the tourney but came on the short end of a 2-1 loss.  Again Bluewater took an early lead on an unassisted goal by Jared Pageau. Plymouth scored to tie it and scored the game winner with 3 minutes left to play in the game. The Sharks had their chances but could not beat the Plymouth net minder. The Sharks played their butts off only to fall short.
Pat Kelly was itching to play and got the start and played well in net.

In game 2 Saturday the sharks played eventual tourney champs Little Caesars and came up on the wrong side of a 3-2 score. Bluewater again played an excellent game but could not find the net.  Like the previous games Bluewater scored first on a breakaway goal by Jared Pageau.
Little Caesars would score the next two goals but Garret Miller, on a breakaway, tied the score late in the third but Caesars scored the winner 10 seconds later.  Emma McCormick played well in net.

The Sharks advanced to the quarter finals by the points per period system and faced the Toronto Iron Heads. The Sharks gave a strong performance but were beaten by a 6-3 margin.
Bluewater was down by 3 midway thru the 2nd period but goals by Tyler Hotham and Jared Pageau with assists to Daniel Wellington, Garrett Miller and Elijah Contreras cut the lead to 3-2. The Iron Heads scored to make it 4-2 early in the 3rd only to have the Sharks again pull to within one on a goal by Cameron Rannie from Garrett Miller and Tyler Hotham, but that is as close the Sharks would get as The Iron heads scored 2 more goals for the 6-3 win.
Pat Kelly started in net and was relieved by Emma McCormick in the 3rd. Both goalies gave solid efforts.

The players should be proud by their showing in this tournament as they were in every game and never quit. With a little luck they would have won a couple of those 1 goal losses. This team made great strides and turned into a pretty good hockey club. It was a very enjoyable Spring season.
