The Jr Sting Minor Atom AAA’s took to the road for two games this weekend and came away with no points despite an exceptional effort in their second contest. The first trip was to the Windsor Ice Park to battle the Sun County Panthers. This game was over quickly as the Jr Sting were welcomed to Windsor with a steady stream of players visiting the penalty box which allowed the Panthers to capitalize with two first period five-on-three power play goals.  The Sting were never able to get back into the game and fell by a final score of 6-1. Scoring the loan goal of the game was Jack Johnston with assists to Jack Dunn and Patrick Wright. Earning the Sting hardhat was Alec Dekoning whose hard forechecking was one of the few bright spots in the game. Jake Wilkins kept the game respectable with some big saves as he saw more rubber than early morning road kill on the 402.

Lambton’s second match-up of the weekend was against the league leading London Knights in which the Jr Sting was treated to a game at the Medway arena.  It looked like a new team showed up for this game and they came ready to give the Knights all they could handle. With hard work and by taking advantage of a few power-play opportunities the Jr Sting built a 3-1 lead after one period of play. The second period saw more of the same hard work by the kids, but the only goal was a power-play marker by the Knights. In the third period ‘Chuck’ was standing tall between the pipes, but the offence continued to struggle to capitalize despite some great opportunities and with under four minutes to play the Knights were able to take advantage of a couple breaks to complete a comeback and hang on for a 4-3 victory.

Despite the outcome the boys once again showed the type of game they are capable of when all 17 show up to play like they can. Lighting the lamp for the Jr Sting were Brock Perry, Vaughan DeGurse and Jack Johnston with helpers going to Franco Sproviero, Isaac McLean and Colin Leyton. The Sting hardhat was awarded to the entire squad for a game they deserved a better outcome in.
