Alliance Playoffs
Lambton vs Kitchener
With the six point series tied at 2 points apiece
the Minor Atoms travelled to Kitchener on Sunday to
battle the Jr Rangers in the pivotal third game.
Goals were tough to come by for both teams in this
contest but it would be the Rangers who struck first
going up 1-0 early in the second period. Minutes
later they would stretch their lead to two goals and
despite numerous chances the second period would end
with the Rangers holding a two goal advantage. Five
minutes into the third period the Jr Rangers lead
would grow to three and would stay that way till
just under four minutes to play when the Jr Sting
would pull their goalie and take advantage of a
Kitchener penalty to pull within two goals. With the
goalie still pulled the Lambton squad would cut the
lead to just one with 52 seconds left to play.
Despite some pressure and hard work the game would
finish 3-2 for the home Kitchener squad. Scoring for
the Jr Sting were Brock Perry and Franco Sproveiro
with assists going to Jake Burnard with two and a
single to Isaac McLean.
Easter day brought
more than just a 'bunny' to the SSEC as Kitchener
would make the journey to Sarnia to battle the
Lambton boys in the fourth game of the playoff
championship series. After a tough loss on the road
the Jr Sting were ready to try and even the series
up on their home ice. Kitchener would battle hard
with a short bench and hold leads of 1-0 at the end
of the first and 2-1 at the end of the second
periods of play. After increasing their lead to 3-1
early in the third the Sting would work hard to
close to within one and then traded goals in the
next minute to enter the final four minutes of the
game down by a score of 4-3. Once again, Lambton was
able to exert pressure and get chances, only to be
denied by the Jr Ranger goaltender. With the final
buzzer sounding the season would come to an end for
the much improved Jr Sting team.
Despite the home ice
advantage on Easter Sunday it would be fourteen
minutes to four in penalty minutes that would hinder
the Jr Sting. A solid goaltending performance was
put in by Jake Wilkins and hitting the scoresheet
were Jack Johnston, Isaac McLean and Jake Burnard
with goals and assists to Brock Perry with two and
singles to Morgan Halcovitch, Burnard and McLean. |
