Lambton vs Huron Perth
The
Lambton AAA Minor Atoms traveled to Hensall Friday
night in an important matchup against the Huron
Perth Lakers. The game was an exciting affair with
chances at both ends of the rink but it was Jake
Wilkins in the Lambton net that would complete the
game with a well deserved shutout. Scoring the only
goal in the 1-0 victory for the Jr Sting was Colin
Leyton with assists to Vaughan DeGurse and Patrick
Wright. The coveted hardhat was shared by the entire
team in the high tempo affair.
This
win combined with a Huron Perth loss the following
day meant that the round robin could be captured by
the Lambton squad on Sunday with a victory on home
ice over the Sun County Panthers.
Still
buzzing from the Friday road trip the boys came out
sluggish against the Panthers and relied on the
solid goaltending of Jake Armitage to hold them in
the opening period of the game. After trading
markers in the first the Jr Sting would start to
gain some momentum and add a couple more in the
second to head into the final period with a 3-2
lead. The third period was all Lambton as the team
scored at five minute intervals to mount a three
goal lead and then closed the deal with their sixth
marker of the game on a late powerplay. With the
6-2 victory the Jr Sting secured their matchup in
the playoff championship against the Kitchener Jr
Rangers.
Scoring for the Sting were Isaac McLean with 2 goals
and 1 assist, Jake Burnard with a goal and two
assists, Alec Dekoning with 1 and 1, Brock Perry
with 1 and 1, Franco Sproviero with a goal and the
final assist to Brett Barnes. Picking up the Sting
Hardhat for his stellar goaltending effort was
Armitage. |
