Jr. Sting beat
themselves against
Chiefs
December 14, 2007
The Jr.
Sting travelled to
St. Thomas Friday
night for their
third meeting of the
season against Elgin
Middlesex. The
Chiefs are the
hottest team in
Ontario; recently
winning the
International Silver
Stick, Waterloo
Gold Puck and
sporting a 9 game
Alliance winning
streak. They beat
the Jr. Sting 8 - 0
and 2 - 0 in the
first two games.
The Jr.
Sting were
impressive in the
first. Blake Thomas
scored in the early
going assisted by
Kalvin Thornton and
Jordan
Belanger. They led
1-0 after the first
period, then gave
up back-to-back
power play goals in
the second. The
Chiefs added an even
strength marker to
take a 3 -1 lead
into the third
period. The Jr.
Sting pressed in the
third, nearly
capitalizing several
times. They didn't
do themselves any
favors; taking 10
minutes in penalties
compared to 0 for
the Chiefs.
The
penalty kill did
their job, back
stopped by a very
hot Reid Rankin
between the pipes.
Rankin made a half
dozen or more
highlight saves that
included foiling two
breakaways and one
penalty shot.
William Brandon
(called up from the
Jr. Sting AA squad)
had a strong
performance on the
blueline for the
short benched Jr.
Sting.
Next
action for is Sunday
night in London
against the Jr.
Knights. Puck drops
8:45pm at the
Western Fair.
London will have
their hands full if
the Jr. Sting
continue their play
of late and stay out
of the penalty box.
