Jr. Sting come-from-behind in win over Sun County

The Sun County Panthers visited the SSEC Saturday for their final regular season game with the Jr. Sting. The Panthers, hot after wins over Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and Windsor Jr. Spitfires scored 24 seconds into the game.  The Jr. Sting replied 16 seconds later but the Panthers built up a 4 – 1 lead by the 10 minute mark of the second period.  The Jr. Sting fought back with 2 more to make a game of it, going into the third period with a 4 – 3 deficit.

The turning point in the game was the play of defenseman Ben Arseneault. 50 seconds into the third period, Arseneault went on a coast-to-coast rush, handed the Panther’s goalie a hot potato and AJ Baughman was there to knock in the rebound.  Arseneault gave the Jr. Sting their first lead of the game 5 minutes later on a shot from the point.

Sun County tied the game midway into the third but Derek Nap scored his second and the game winner with a little over a minute to play in the game.  Kalvin Thornton put the game in the bag with an empty netter.

Seven Jr. Sting players had multiple points in the come-from-behind victory.
Thornton led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Ben Arseneault had 1 goal and 2 assists.  AJ Baughman and Derek Nap scored 2 goals each.  Duncan MacSorley, Jordan Belanger and Zach Anderson had 2 assists each.  Darren Foubister was a stand-out between the pipes.

The win compliments a remarkable turn around for the Jr. Sting in 2008.  The team sports an 800 average since the New Year came in.  They were struggling to stay above 200 back in early December.
