Jr. Sting Have Backs to the Wall
Ontario Alliance Playdown Preliminary Round
January 24, 2008

The Windsor Jr. Spitfires visited the SSEC Thursday night for game 2 of the Ontario Alliance Playdown Preliminary Round. The Jr. Spitfires, hot off a 9 - 0 drubbing, continued their dominance with a goal 3 minutes into the first period. The early goal didn't cause the Jr. Sting to collapse as they did the night before. They picked it up and fans were entertained with end-to-end action.

The Jr. Sting received a very questionable penalty 5 minutes into the second. Their displeasure resulted in a bench minor. Windsor made it 2 - 0 on the ensuing 5 on 3 power play. They scored again 3 minutes later to make it 3 - 0. The Jr. Sting responded with 5 minutes to play in the second on a goal by Derek Nap assisted by Zach Anderson and Jake Unsworth. Nap's goal was the first goal scored by the struggling Jr. Sting in 5 periods.

The rest of the game remained scoreless. The Jr. Sting pressured for the most part but were stoned time-after-time by a very hot Windsor goalie. Reid Rankin was also solid at the other end for the Jr. Sting. The game was a considerable improvement over Wednesday night, especially considering the Jr. Sting were missing 3 players. Defenseman Curtis Crombeen who was called up from the Jr. Sting AAA Major Bantams did very well on the blue line. |
The Jr. Sting have their backs to the wall when they travel to Windsor Saturday. A win will have Windsor returning to the SSEC for game 4 on Sunday. A loss will relegate the Jr. Sting to the play-offs for a match-up against the loser of the Sun County Panther - London Jr. Knight series.
