Jr
Sting Tie Hamilton Reps
It
looked like a long night in the
works when the Jr. Sting took to the
ice against the Hamilton Reps Friday
at the SSEC. The Reps
dominated play in the first period
but goal tender Reid Rankin kept his
team in the game. The Jr. Sting had
an impressive effort in the second
and third, trading goals
with Hamilton in a 3 - 3 tie.
Kalvin Thornton led the way with 1
goal and 1 assist. Blake Thomas and
Jake Unsworth scored 1 each. Jake
Janicek, Zach Anderson, Jordan
Belanger, Duncan MacSorley and Jeff
Paulley got assists.
Jr. Sting Upset Cambridge
The Jr. Sting were underdogs
when they traveled to Cambridge
Sunday to play the Eastern
Division 1st place Hawks. Fans
were treated to a barn burner
that resulted in the Jr. Sting
winning by a 3 - 2 score.
Zach Anderson led the
offense with 1 goal and 1
assist. Jordan Belanger & Derek
Nap scored the other markers.
Assists came from Jake Unsworth,
Duncan Innes, Cody McPhail and
most notably goal tender Darren
Foubister.
Foubister was sharp throughout
the game, making big saves,
especially on the penalty kill
and getting on the score sheet
to boot. The Jr. Sting served
14 minutes in minor penalties
compared to 4 minutes for the
home town Hawks.
Duncan MacSorley and Jake
Unsworth did an excellent job
killing penalties on the forecheck
while Ben Arseneault stood out
on defense.
This was probably the best
overall team effort by the Jr.
Sting this season. They'll hope
to carry that momentum into next
weekend's home stand against
Brantford and Huron Perth.
