Jr. Sting
go 1 - 1 on weekend
October
27 - 28, 2007
Jr. Sting Lose to Brantford 99'ers
Taking
6 penalties to 1 in the first 2
periods, turn-overs and allowing the
opponent to win races to the puck
was the recipe for a 4 - 1 loss to
the Brantford 99'ers Saturday at the
SSEC.
Jordan Belanger scored the lone
goal assisted by Kalvin Thornton
and Jake Unsworth.
Defense Key in Win
over Lakers
It
looked like another long game in
the works when the Huron
Perth Lakers jumped out to a 2 -
0 lead in the first period at
the SSEC Sunday afternoon. The
Jr. Sting added fuel to the fire
by taking 14 minutes in
penalties in the 2nd period
compared to 6 minutes for
the Lakers. They found
themselves killing 5 on 3's at
three different times in the
period.
Goal tender Darren Foubister and
his defensive mates were up for
the challenge, holding the
Lakers scoreless in the second
period. Defense then went on a
blitz contributing for 7 points
on 5 unanswered goals. 3 were
scored in 57 seconds.
Defensemen Steve Farlow, Jake Janicek and
Jeff Paulley had multiple points
while Ben Arseneault scored on a
rocket from the point.
Kalvin Thornton led the forwards
with 1 goal and 1 assist, Blake
Thomas & Jordan Belanger scored
1 each and Derek Nap picked
up an assist.
The 5 - 2 victory was a much
needed win for the Jr.
Sting. They were winless
against the Lakers last
season and lost 2 exhibition
games to them in the pre-season.
Next action is Saturday,
November 3rd when the Waterloo
Wolves visit the SSEC.
