Mooretown Storm Atom AE Finish Regular Season on
a Winning Note
The Storm were on the road in Watford Saturday
and defeated the East Lambton Eagles 4-2 in the final game of the regular
season.
With Playoffs just around the corner the Storm
might have been getting a little ahead of themselves as they weren't able to
match the Eagles' intensity in the early going. Just three minutes into the
game the Storm would find themselves down by 2. It started with an East
Lambton player being allowed to walk in alone to fire a hard low shot into
the back of the net. Just twenty seconds later, the same player was again
given too much room and slid one under the pads of the Storm goalie.
Kyler Raymond, getting the start in goal, did an
excellent job of shaking off the hook from the bench and putting those two
flukey goals out of his mind. Raymond went on
to shut the door the rest of the way before
handing the net over to Kaden Fulcher who matched his focus and kept the
Eagles from scoring another.
The Storm showed their character quickly as less
than a minute after falling behind 2-0 Hunter Adams went hard to the net to
drive home a cross crease feed from Hayden Gardner. The Storm, with some
strong forechecking, kept the puck in the Eagles' zone for the remainder of
the period leading to Luke Simon stepping into one from the point to tie the
game up with under a minute to play in the 1st. Simon, scoring the 100th
Storm goal of the regular season, was awarded a 'trophy' puck to remember
the occassion. Special thanks to Todd Smith.
The 2nd period was a freewheeling, end to end
battle with the goaltenders looking sharp and sending the game into the 3rd
still deadlocked at two.
Mooretown would continue their relentless
forechecking in the 3rd Period resulting in Aynsley Harrison putting home
the winner two minutes in. Ethan Dupont
and Ben Anderson, with some great work down low, picked up the assists.
With just over nine minutes to play Hayden Gardner would give the Storm some
breathing room shoving home a loose puck in the crease after a point shot
from Griffin Dillabough.
The Storm completed a very successful regular
season with a record of 15-3-2 and outscored their opponents 102-45.
