Mooretown Storm Atom AE season comes to an end
Game 5 - Mooretown 0 St.Mary's 4
The Storm visited St.Mary's on Saturday night needing a win to stay alive in the 6 Point League Championship Series. Trailing St.Mary's 5 points to 3 Mooretown needed to put in yet another great road performance in hopes of sending the series to a deciding Game 6 back home.
The Storm played the home team even through the 1st Period with both teams generating good scoring chances but unable to get on the board.
The 2nd Period was a see-saw battle that had both teams pressing hard for the lead. A three minute span midway through the 2nd would prove to be the start of the end for the Storm as St.Mary's scored three times to take a commanding lead into the 3rd.
Mooretown kept battling hard and missed some glorious chances that would have swung the momentum in their favour but it wasn't meant to be on this day. With the goalie pulled with six minutes remaining the Storm kept the puck in the St.Mary's zone for three minutes but were unable to put one by the netminder. An empty-netter with just over three minutes to play sealed the deal and gave a very deserving St.Mary's squad the League Championship Title.
The Mooretown Storm Atom AE team should be very proud of their accomplishments and their strong season. The fact that this game was their largest margin of loss all year shows how competitive these boys and girls were from September through March.
