Mooretown Storm Atom
AE Team split a pair of weekend games
October 13 - 14,
2007
On Saturday
Ilderton paid a visit to the Moore Sports
Complex and proved to be a strong opponent for
the Storm.
The game was a very
physical affair with both teams laying out solid
hits in open ice and along the boards. Only 6
minor penalities (4 to the Storm) were handed
out, so while the game was a rough one the kids
were left to decide the outcome playing 5 on 5.
Mooretown opened the
scoring as Trevor Bogaert found the top corner
on a great wrist shot late in the 1st Period.
Jacob Munday drew the only assist with a well
executed breakout pass. Bogaert would add
to the Storm's lead late in the 2nd with another
high blocker-side shot after he was sent
streaking down the right side on a pass from
Luke Simon. Ilderton answered back just 8
seconds later on a hard shot from a scramble in
close that found daylight just under the
crossbar. Kaden Fulcher started in goal
and was on his game yet again with some
excellent saves in a very tight contest. The
goal was the first he had allowed in 5 games.
Kyler Raymond came
in to play the second half of the game in net
and may several brilliant saves in keeping
Ilderton from tying the score. With a few
minutes gone in the 3rd Period the Storm would
go up 3-1. After some great work down low by
Christian Lyle, Kirk Smith scooped up a loose
puck and fed a hard pass across the slot to a
diving Cooper Muxlow who got enough blade on it
to redirect it into the net. Cooper followed up
with his on ice version of the Charlie Brown
celebration. For the final 10 minutes
Ilderton carried much of the play, desperate to
catch up, but Raymond was there each time to
close the door and preserve a 3-1 victory.
Sunday saw
the Storm track Northeast for a game in
St.Mary's on the Rock's new, enormous ice
surface...surface...surface...
Mooretown came out
flying and jumped to a 3-0 lead after the 1st
Period on goals by centremen Kirk Smith, Hayden
Gardner and Trevor Bogaert. The Storm stayed in
control until St.Mary's scored two goals just 25
seconds apart mid-way through the 2nd. Ben
Anderson answered back to put the Storm up
4-2 but the Home team just wouldn't give up and
climbed back to within one with a goal in the
last minute.
The 3rd Period saw
the Storm run into some trouble clearing their
zone as St.Mary's picked up the tempo to tie the
game with 9 minutes left. The back and forth
action continued until St.Mary's scored on a
knuckleball with just under a minute to play.
The Storm weren't able to mount any offence with
their goalie pulled as St.Mary's did an
excellent job of clogging up the neutral zone to
steal the game 5-4.
The Storm goalies
had their busiest game so far as St.Mary's used
the wide ice and huge offensive zones to their
advantage to direct a lot of shots at Kyler
Raymond and Kaden Fulcher.
The Storm continue
league play next weekend when they host
St.Thomas on Saturday and head down the 10th
Line to do battle with their county rivals in
Petrolia on Sunday.
