Mooretown Storm Atom
AE won two weekend games
October 20 - 21, 2007
The Storm continued
their strong play as they defeated the St.Thomas
Stars and Petrolia Oilers in a couple of 3-2
nailbiters.
On Saturday,
the Storm faced-off at home against a strong
St.Thomas squad.
Mooretown scored the
lone goal of the 1st period as Ethan Dupont did
some fine work along the boards getting the puck
down low to Hayden Gardner who stepped out from
the side of the net and put the puck home on the
short side. The Storm would go up by 2 early in
the 2nd period as high pressure penalty
killing by Cooper Muxlow and Kirk Smith resulted
in Muxlow firing in a wrist shot from the slot
after stealing the puck deep in St.Thomas' zone.
Kaden Fulcher had
the start in goal and put in a stellar
performance, making a highlight reel save just
before handing the reins over to Kyler Raymond.
St.Thomas would get
on the board late in the 2nd after the Storm got
running around in their own end and left a man
alone in front of the net who put a laser in off
the post.
The 3rd period was
intense and fast paced. Raymond continued to
come up big as St.Thomas put on the pressure as
they looked for the equalizer. The Stars tied
the game with just over 6 minutes to play on a
blast off of a face-off. The Storm would
respond just under a minute later as Hayden
Gardner picked up a loose puck outside of the
Stars' blueline after Aynsley Harrison took out
the defenseman and raced in to split the defence
and bury a hard backhander for the winning goal.
The Storm played an
excellent team game with everyone putting forth
great efforts. The entire Defence corps was
solid and gave St.Thomas very little room to
manoeuvre. Luke Simon connected with some
perfectly timed old-school hip checks and Brett
Farr lowered the boom on any forward coming down
his side with their eyes on the puck. Griffin
Dillabough, Jacob Munday and Hunter Adams kept
the Star forwards from gaining any space in the
middle of the ice and Connor MacLean was steady
in his end as he played his best game of the
season.
On Sunday,
the Storm paid their first visit to Petrolia
and, as always, it was a hard fought battle.
Mooretown found
themselves down 1-0 at the end of the 1st period
but came out strong in the 2nd to go ahead 2-1.
Cooper Muxlow, assisted by Trevor Bogaert, got
the Storm on the board and then Christian Lyle
scored on a hard shot from off the wing after
being sprung loose by Brett Farr. The game got
physical as the Storm started playing the body
with Ben Anderson and Trevor Bogaert leading the
way with some big hits.
After Petrolia tied
the game on the powerplay in the opening minute
of the 3rd, hard forechecking by Aleeza Dobson
caused a turnover that Kirk Smith would pounce
on to score the winner for Mooretown on a
beautiful one-on-one move and quick shot past
the goalie's glove.
Kyler Raymond and
Kaden Fulcher were again steady in the nets.
This was a strong weekend for both netminders as
they faced a lot of shots and came up with a
some clutch saves in a couple of very close
contests.
The Storm are in
action again next Saturday when they visit
Lucan.
