Midget A Final

Petrolia Oilers vs Mooretown Storm

In the Midget A Division there was a total of 14 teams competing most who were winners at various Tournaments through out Canada and the USA.  (see listing on left side)

The Petrolia Oilers & Mooretown Midgets were the underdogs going into this tournament as both teams were eliminated in their Regional Tournament in Petrolia over the Holiday season.  (regional website)

In Regional action in Petrolia the Oilers went 3 - 1 then lost in double overtime (1 - 0) in the final to Tillsonburg.  For Mooretown they were eliminated early with a double knock out format the Storm lost their first two games (their first game in shoot out against Woodstock).

The two teams were invited to participated in the International Finals in Sarnia to round out the division.
Ironically it was the two invited teams that would meet in the final.

In games leading up to the final Mooretown went 4 - 0  with wins against: Lincoln (3-2), Reston (6-1), Atlantic City (6 - 0), Semi Final - Pickering (4 - 1).  For the Oilers they went 3 - 0 - 1 against: New Liskeard (6 - 1), Atlantic City (2 - 2), Dallas (6 - 2), Semi Fianl - Quinte West (2 - 0).

In the final game before a packed house the fans were treated to a great hockey game.

Starting in net for the Oilers was Eric Steinman and for the Storm was Tye Belanger.  Both goalies made some outstanding saves in this exciting game!

Both sides were scoreless after two periods of play.  In the third period the action continued and as the clock was winding down, it appeared that this game would have gone to an overtime but the Oilers found the opening and scored with 2:17 remaining in the game.

Scoring the winning goal was Dylan Fraser from Trevor Duncan and Tyson Cooper. The Storm never gave up and in the final minute with the Oilers a man short due to a penalty Mooretown pulled their goalie for a two extra man attack. Petrolia fought back and Corey Steadman got control of the puck shot at the empty net and hit the mark to secure the win with :39 seconds remaining on the clock.  Time ran out giving the Petrolia Oilers the coveted Silver Stick!
