Petrolia Squires takes first win at their Home Opener!
Petrolia vs Tillsonburg
Oct 26, 2007

After the breakdown of the ice surface machine two weeks prior the Squires got off to a great start in their home opener on Friday taking down the Tillsonburg Vipors by a score of 6 - 3.  With some new names in the line up the Squires are looking forward to another great year of hockey.

In this game the Vipers took the lead early in the first period when Matt Mezenberg scored at 3:50.  The Squires answered back on a powerplay at 6:33.  Craig Laframboise scored the first home opener goal assisted by Jason Polera and Ryan Leasa.   Less than a minute later Jason Hawes playing in his first game this year scored his first goal to take the lead for the Squires assisted by Ryan Chapman and Danny Larocque. Both sides went back and forth until 16:16 and Joel Myers who also was playing in his first game as a Squire scored his first of the season to take the 3 - 1 lead.  Assisting on Myers goal was Scott Hull.
Second period action saw Deryk Whitehead narrow the gap for Tillsonburg, but the Squires answered back with their second powerplay goal scored by Jason Polera assisted by Ryan Leasa.  The period would end with the Squires leading 4 - 2.

Third period action Jason widened the lead with his second of the night assisted by Jason Hawes and Mike Gardner.  Things started to heat up and at 11:03 the Vipers were awarded a penalty shot which Dwayne Blais took and scored.  The Squires answered back which turned out to be the final goal at 11:59 with Scott Hull scoring assisted by Brayden Belan and Joel Myers.

Chris Houle was in net for the Squires making a total of 40 saves.
Vicor Ranieri was in net for the Vipers with 27 saves.

The Squires are now 1 - 3 for the season and look forward to starting a winning streak as they travel to Windsor for week night visit on Tuesday Oct 30.
