Point Novice Blackhawks Draw First Blood in
Playoff Action.
The Point Edward Novice hockey team
traveled to Dorchester to play the Dragons in Lambton-Middlesex
playoff action and won 5-1 to take a 1-0 lead in their six point
playoff series.
The first period saw each team feeling
each other out since both teams had not played each other in league
action. Play was end-to-end and both teams looked equally matched.
The Point’s defense kept the Dragons away from the Blackhawk’s net
and any opportunities for the Dragons where shut down by Hunter
Krjniak. The period ended 0-0.
The Dragons got on the board 30 seconds
into the second period when they jammed in the puck in a scramble in
front of the net. The Blackhawk’s countered 1 minute later when
Lucas Ross scored off a Joshua Vale rebound to make it 1-1. Action
continued to be fast and the Point was digging hard for the puck.
Krjniak continue to make some big saves to shut down the Dorchester
offense and keep the game 1-1 after two period of play.
The Point really pulled it together in
the third when Joshua Vale made a great backhanded shot from the
hash marks to give the Point a 2-1 lead. One minute later, Joe
Correia made an identical backhanded shot after a rebound to extend
the Hawks lead to 3-1. Dorchester really pushed hard to try to
shorten the Hawks lead but the Points defense was awesome by meeting
the Dragons at the blue line and not giving them any good shooting
opportunities. Late in the period, Christopher Dunn put the game out
of reach when he jammed in a Joseph Correia rebound to make it 4-1.
With the Dragons goalie pulled Nathan Edlington added a empty netter
to end the game 5-1.
Game #2 in the series is on Thursday,
February 21st at 7pm in the Point.
