Dragons Blank Point Novice Blackhawks 5-0 in Playoff Action
February 23, 2008
The Point Edward Novice hockey team
traveled to Dorchester to play the Dragons in the third game of
their Lambton-Middlesex semi-final playoff series and lost 5-0. The
series is tied at 3 points apiece.
From the start of the game, things went
the Dragons way when they got a goal in the first minute of play on
a screened dump shot to take an early 1-0 lead. The Point pushed
hard throughout the period but the Dorchester goaltending was hot.
Play was end-to-end in this game between equally matched teams. The
Dragons took advantage of the Hawks defense pinching in to get a
breakaway and with 3 seconds left extended their lead to 2-0 to end
the period.
With a 2-0 lead, Dorchester began to
push hard but the Hawks defense and Bailey Reinders came up big to
keep the Hawks close. The Point just couldn’t get any breaks and
even on a power play opportunity they couldn’t capitalize. The
second ended 2-0 for Dorchester.
The third period saw Dorchester get all
the breaks when midway through the period, the Point couldn’t clear
the puck and they jammed in a trickler to make it 3-0. With 4
minutes left, the Hawks broke down and let the Dragons score 2 more
goals in less than a minute to put the game out of reach and end the
game 5-0 for Dorchester.
With the series tied at 3 points each,
Game #4 in the series is on Thursday, February 28th at 7pm in the
Point and Game 5 is on Saturday March 1st in Aylmer at
12pm. |
