Strathroy Rockets Cool The Point’s Novice Team

After an incredible start to the year, the Strathroy Rockets cooled the Point Edward Blackhawks when they beat them 5-4 in Lambton-Middlesex league action.

The two teams were evenly matched and it showed with some good hockey being played. The Hawks were a bit slow at the start and Strathroy took full advantage of their slow start by getting a goal within the first minute of play. The goal was a wake up call for the Point as play was end-end action for the remainder of the period and it ended 1-0 for the Rockets.

The second period was similar to the first with Strathroy catching the Point at a weak moment and extending their lead to 2-0 earlier in the period. The Hawks retaliated 45 seconds later to keep the game close when Lucas Ross charged in off Nathan Edlington and Mackenzie Caley passes to make it 2-1. Both teams dug hard for the puck and play was exciting and Bailey Reinders came up big to keep the game within reach of the Balckhawks. Just before the period ended Lucas Ross got his second goal of the game with assists going to Kaeden Caine and Joshua Vale to tie the game before the period ended at 2-2.

With the game tied, the third saw some excellent hockey, with both teams making some assume plays. The Rockets came out hard and scored 10 seconds in to make it 3-2 and 3 minutes later extended their lead to 4-2 and by the mid way point of the period had a 5-2 lead. The Hawks wouldn’t give up and Joseph Correia scored with help from Mackenzie Caley and Lucas Ross to shorten the Rockets leads to 5-3. With momentum on their side, the Hawks continued to make an offensive rush and with the Point’s goalie pulled and an extra attacker they were able to make it 5-4. Time ran out and Strathroy got the 5-4 win.

The Point’s play’s their next game action on Saturday Jan 26^th versus Strathroy (Blue) at 2:00pm in Strathroy.
