The Point Novice Team Wins 5-2 versus
Strathroy(Blue)
The Point Edward Novice hockey team
traveled to Strathroy to play the Strathroy Blue hockey team and won
5-2 in Lambton-Middlesex league action.
The Hawks started the game a bit slow
with the first half of the game being dominated by the Strathroy
team. Bailey Reinders played a big role in keeping Strathroy off the
board. As the period went on the Point slowly grew stronger and
began playing Strathroy head to head and the play shifted to the
Strathroy end. The period ended 0-0.
Early in the second, Strathroy got a big
break when the Point couldn’t clear a rebound and they capitalized
on the opportunity to take a 1-0 lead two minutes into the period.
The Hawks had a power play opportunity but couldn’t take advantage
of the extra attacker but as play went on, they grew stronger and
with less than 2minutes to play in the period Joseph Correia one
timed a pass from Lucas Ross and Brooke Kirkland to tie the game at
1-1. One minute later the Point took a 2-1 lead to end the period
when Kaeden Caine scored off Nathan Edlington and Mackenzie Caley
passes.
The third period had all the momentum
going with the Point. Christopher Dunn got things going 1 minute
into the period to extend the Hawks lead. Strathroy continued to
battle the Hawks and was able to shorten the lead to 3-2 but shortly
after the Point retaliated to get their two-goal advantage back when
Lucas Ross scored off Christopher Dunn and Spencer Preece passes.
The Blackhawks extend their lead to 5-2 when Joshua Vale scored just
before curfew hit to give the Hawks the win.
The Point’s take a two-week hiatus from
league play and will be traveling to Dresden on the Feb 1st
weekend to play in the John MacDonald Memorial hockey tournament.
