Blast Hang In Tough Against Rockets to Pick up Third Road Win
Final Score:  Strathroy - 3   Sarnia - 4
by Deb Lawrence.

This contest was held in the Rockets regular home arena, and one that didn't hold a lot of good memories for Blast fans who attended last season's game seven in the league series.  The Rockets came from behind to win the game, and almost did the same in this one.  Turning away 45 shots of the 48 he faced was Sarnia's John Faulkner who picked up his 12th win of the season.  Taking the loss for the Rockets was Ben Thomas, his 7th of this season.

Twice the Blast held a lead of two goals, and twice they surrendered it before getting the winner midway through the third period.  Blast fans then collective held their breath counting down the seconds until a celebration of the win could occur.

1st Period:  Sarnia opened the scoring with a goal at the 4:17 mark off the stick of Tyler Peters with assists to Wayd Pitfield and Matt Abercrombie.  They would make it 2-0 at 11:18 and take that score into the dressing room at the end of the period.  Getting the marker was Wayd Pitfield from Darby McKinnon and Adam Steadman.  Shots on goal:  Strathroy - 14   Sarnia - 3.  The Rockets were 0 for 2 with the man advantage and Sarnia was 0 for 2 on the power play this period.

2nd Period:  A couple of charging penalties were called near the seven minute mark, one was the result of Strathroy's Kraig Wright leaving his feet to level a Blast player.  The at 7:59, the Rockets found themselves without the services of Joey Beauchamp for 10 minutes of play as he took exception to no penalty called against a Sarnia player and gave a vicious whack to the glass with his stick.  Sarnia's Tyler Cicchini had a breakaway and was halted by a stick thrown by Zach Hodgins, so a penalty shot was awarded.  He got off a shot but it was stopped by Thomas. Holding the stick was the minor called at 11:47 and off to serve his two minutes was Josh Cornelissen of the Blast.  Strathroy got on the board with a power play goal with 21 seconds remaining in the Cornelissen minor.  Scoring the goal was Kyle Moore with assists to Mark Aris and Dan Grant.  Sarnia spent a great deal of time in their own end so with 4:44 remaining in the period, they took a 30 second time out.  Restoring the two goal lead for Sarnia was Wayd Pitfield (with his 2nd goal and 3rd point of the evening) and picking up assists were Adam Steadman and Tyler Peters.  Shots on goal:  Strathroy - 23/37   Sarnia - 10/13.  Strathroy was 1 for 3 with the man advantage and Sarnia had no power play chances this period.

3rd Period:  Just as the Blast finished killing off a penalty that was taken at the 19:30  mark of the 2nd period, Strathroy scored their second goal of the game from Joey Beauchamp with assists to Dan Chadwick and Andrew McCombe. Notching the game at three each at 3:26 and surprising most everyone with a shot that beat Faulkner was Fraser from Dan Grant and Zach Hodgins.  The Blast scored their only goal of this period at the 9:07 mark and scoring the game winner was Matt Abercrombie with assists to Tyler Peters and Derek VanVeller. Strathroy called a time out with 66 seconds remaining and pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Faulkner and company played a good defensive style of hockey and picked up the win to the delight of the cheering fans who made the trek.  Shots on goal:  Strathroy - 11/48   Sarnia - 12/25.  Strathroy was 0 for 1 with the man advantage this period and were 1 for 6 in the game.  Sarnia was 0 for 2 on the power play this period and were 0 for 2 in the game.
