Sarnia vs Woodstock
Sarnia played host to visiting
Woodstock in recent action and domintated the game from
beginning to end. Kyle Adams opened up the scoring for the Sting
from Ryan Walker and Aiden Chapdelaine. Austin Hewton would put
the home team up 2-0 from Jason Braun and Zach Veenendaal to end
the first period. The Sting would score two more goals in the 2nd
period from Jake Armitage and Aiden Chapdelain with Jared
Bourque and Ryan Walker picking up assists for a 4-0 lead before
Woodstock would break Travis Moore’s shutout bid late in the 2nd.
The Sting would score two more in the 3rd from Kyle
Adams and Nolan Riley with Aiden Chapdelaine, Michael Zottl,
Kyle Adams and Nolan Riley getting assists in the 6-1 victory.
Sarnia at Waterloo
Sarnia’s next game was a rescheduled
game from the snow storm which sent the Sting down the highway
for a late Wednesday night matchup with the #2 team in the
league Waterloo Wolves. The Sting were slow out of the gate as
the Wolves would score early in the first for a 1-0 lead at the
end of the first. Sarnia held their ground but Waterloo would
score again in the second as one of the Sting defencemen would
knock the puck in his own net. Late in the second it seemed that
the Sting’s legs would arrive for the game as they slowly seemed
to turn the tide with some strong defensive work and goaltending
from Riley Collins. Sarnia carried this momentum into the 3rd
as they now came alive and put the Wolves on their heels.
With the Waterloo fans cheering that familiar chant in the
background (water water water….. loo loo loo) they were quickly
silenced as Kyle Adams would fly down the wing and bury a bullet
under the crossbar. The Sting continued to swarm their opponents
as Aiden Chapdelaine would also beat the Wolve’s goalie top
shelf on a nice passing play from Kyle Adams and Ryan Walker.
Waterloo seemed to hold on for their life but with just under
three minutes remaining in the game the Sting were assessed a
penalty. Waterloo put their big guns out but were unable to beat
the solid netminding and defensive play of the Sting. As this
wasn’t enough the Sting were then handed another penalty and now
down 5 on 3 with just under two minutes remaining.
Sarnia killed off the first penalty and went to work on killing
off the second. The Sting’s Nolan Riley would intercept a
Waterloo pass while still shorthanded and walk in on a breakaway
only to be stopped by the Wolve netminder. Waterloo tried to
mount some pressure but with some strong penalty killing they
couldn’t get anything going which resulted in the Sting getting
a 2-0 breakaway with 5 seconds left in the game. Aiden
Chapdelaine tried to beat the buzzer but the Wolve goalie would
snag the puck out of the air as the buzzer would sound.
This was an absolute solid TEAM comeback effort for such
a late game this far out of town on a weekday. Great job boys!!
