Major Atom Finished Seeded
Season in 5th Place
After the seeded season Sarnia
finished with a record of 12W -6L- 4T and finished in 5th
place moving them up to the AA division where they will compete
against St. Thomas, Cambridge, Waterloo, London Gold and London
Green to see who will win the right to play in the OHF
championships in April.
To start the 2nd season
Sarnia would host the St. Thomas Stars. With Sarnia’s bench a
lot shorter than their opponents due to the Christmas Vacation,
they skated to a 2-2 tie with the Stars. Scoring for the Sting
was Jake Armitage and Kyle Adams with Nolan Riley, Kevin Durco
and Kyle Adams picking up assists. A big thanks goes out to
AP’s Matt Szabo who played backup in goal for Travis Moore and
Colin Osler who did a great job down the left wing.
Sarnia’s next matchup was just after
the New Year and with the full team back they were looking to
take it to their opponents the London Knights Green. It was
obvious that the Christmas break didn’t help the Sting as they
couldn’t seem to find their legs and were shutout by their
opponents 3-0.
The Cambridge Hawks then came to
town to take on the Sting. Sarnia controlled most of the play
during the game but the Hawks managed to keep the Sting to the
outside and out of good scoring positions. Cambridge would score
a goal in each of the periods to win this matchup 3-0 and leave
the Sting with another shutout loss.
Sarnia then traveled the next day to
St. Thomas. Both teams couldn’t find the back of the net in the
first period. The Stars however were first on the board with a
late 2nd period goal. St. Thomas would then add to
their lead early in the 3rd to go up 2-0 as Sarnia
was now going into its 9th period without a goal
until Kyle Adams would break the Stars shutout with Aiden
Chapdelaine and Gage Riddoch picking up the assists. Late in the
3rd period with about 2 ½ minutes left in the game
Sarnia had the pressure on the Stars as St. Thomas couldn’t get
the puck out of their end. The Sting threw everything they had
at the net as St. Thomas scrambled around and with Sarnia
pulling their goalie for the extra attacker a loose puck came
right up the slot where the Sting forward skated in and let a
slap shot go only to just barely hit the goaltenders toe and
just miss the post. Finally the Stars had got the puck out of
their end only to beat the Sting defencemen to the puck and put
it in the empty net for the St. Thomas win 3-1. |
