Major Atoms Come Home Empty Handed

The Sarnia Jr. Sting traveled out of town for the weekend and returned home with no points for their efforts for the first time all season. Their first matchup was with the league leaders (for now) London Knights Gold. First period action both teams had numerous chances to score but the period ended with no goals. During the second London scored in the first minute to take the lead 1-0. Sarnia responded with a powerplay goal shortly after when the Sting would dump the puck in and forecheck hard which lead Jason Braun scoring on a wrap around from Jared Bourque and Austin Hewton. The Knights would score again only to have the Sting respond a minute later when Aiden Chapdelaine would beat the London netminder with Jason Braun and Austin Hewton picking up assists as the 2nd period would end 2-2. During third period action Sarnia would make some small costly mistakes which all resulted in London goals and this one would end up 5-2 for the Knights but the score didn’t really show how close this matchup really was.

The following day Sarnia was off to Cambridge to take on the Hawks. Sarnia came out of the gates hard as they controlled most of the play until Aiden Chapdelaine would score for the Sting unassisted on a great single effort. Sarnia continued with the momentum but were unable to get any more goals past the Hawk netminder as the 1st period would end with the Sting up 1-0. During second period action the Sting didn’t come out as hard and the Hawks would go to work scoring two goals in a 40 second span to take the lead 2-1. Sarnia tried their best to turn things around but just couldn’t get any bounces as the Hawks would score a late 2nd period goal off a Sting players body to take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd.  Sarnia was unable to muster up any offence in the 3rd and with Cambidge getting all the bounces which lead to another late goal for the Hawks with just 10 seconds left and the 4-1 victory for Cambridge.
