Major Atom’s Secure Position In
AA Division
November 20, 2007
Sarnia played host to the London
Knights Green in front of a large home crowd and they didn’t
disappoint their fans. The Sting came out determined and out
played their opponents but were unable to find the back of the
net as the first period ended scoreless. London was first to
score early in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams traded
some penalties through the second until Aiden Chapdelaine broke
loose on a pass from Nolan Riley to tie things up a 1-1. On the
ensuing faceoff Chapdelaine would get his second of the game
and a 2-1 lead from Nolan Riley and Jason Braun. The Knights
would tie things up a minute later.
Once again the sting would
reply off the faceoff as Kyle Adams would put the sting ahead
3-2 from Austin Hewton and carry the lead 3-2 heading into the 3rd.
Both teams would get great scoring chances in the 3rd
with neither team getting the next important goal. London would
pull their goalie late in the game and throw everything they had
at the Sting. Sarnia held their ground in blocking shots and
keeping their opponents to the outside while some great saves by
Riley Collins would send the visiting Knights home empty handed
as the Sting would give their fans a huge win on home ice.

The Sting then traveled to Brantford
to take on the 99ers. Sarnia’s Kyle Adams scored the only goal
of the first unassisted. The second period both teams had
chances but the goalies held their ground in keeping this one a
tight game. Sarnia increased their lead 2-0 when Steven Graham
would bang in a rebound from Kevin Durco. Shortly after Jake
Armitage would send a backhand laser into the top corner with
Zach Veenendaal and Aiden Chapdelaine picking up assists.
Brantford would score mid-way through the 3rd to
spoil Travis Moore’s shutout bid as the game would end 3-1 in
Sarnia’s favour.

Finally the Sting were off to
Stratford to take on the Warrior’s. The 1st period
ended scoreless. Both teams traded goals in the 2nd
with Jared Bourque scoring for the sting on a nice redirected
point shot from Gage Riddoch. Third period action seen both
teams getting some great scoring chances but nobody cashing in
as this one would end a 1-1 tie giving Sarnia enough points to
guarantee themselves a spot in the AA division. |
