Well Earned Victory For The Sarnia
Jr. Sting
The Jr. Sting came out full
of energy and ready to take on the Cambridge
Hawks during their second regular season
“Seeded Division” game at home on Sunday
December 23, 2007. Great individual effort
and team play by all, for 3 full periods,
allowed the Jr. Sting to defeat the Hawks by
a score of 5 to 3.
The Jr. Sting opened up the
scoring at the 5 minute mark of the 1st
period when John Fazio collected a Hawks’
dumped puck at centre ice and fed a pass off
the boards to teammate Lucas Banninga.
Lucas tipped the puck past an opposing Hawks
player to Noah Tardif who skated in and took
a backhand shot that found the Hawks
goalie’s five-hole. At the 2 minute mark of
the 1st period the Hawks rallied
back and added a goal to tie the game at one
apiece. Second period action was
competitive all the way through and
Cambridge took the lead at the 4 minute mark
of the 2nd period. Two minutes
later, the Jr. Sting came back and tied the
game at two apiece. The Jr. Sting scored
after breaking up a Hawks rush which left
Jack Soeder with the puck. Jack started up
the ice and fed a pass to teammate Jacob
Caughlin who drove the net and beat the
goalie with a shot. At the 9 minute mark of
the 3rd period the Hawks scored
again to take the lead. Thirty seconds
later the Jr. Sting fought back and tied the
game at 3 when Jacob Caughlin added his
second for the game by shooting in his own
rebound after receiving a pass from John
Fazio. At the 3 minute mark of the 3rd
period Noah Tardif got the game winning
goal, his second for the game, after he
picked up the puck that was cleared up the
middle by John Fazio and then charged the
net to beat the goalie with a shot. With 13
seconds remaining in the 3rd
period, Noah Tardif sealed the deal and
picked up a hat-trick after he tapped in
Jack Soeder’s end-to-end clearing puck on
the Hawks’ open net.
All of the Jr. Sting played
well including some excellent goaltending
from Nicholas Coady. The Sarnia Jr. Sting
Minor Atom A coaching staff are very pleased
with all of the boys’ efforts. The Jr.
Sting showed some real heart during this
game and it was a Well Earned Victory.
