Sarnia Jr.
Sting Lose 5 – 0 to Kitchener Jr. Rangers
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor
Atom A travelled to Kitchener on Saturday
January 12th, 2008 to take on the
Kitchener Jr. Rangers, but were beat by a
score of 5 – 0. There were moments of
strong play for the Jr. Sting but the Jr.
Rangers were aggressive and hungry for the
win. Shots on net were even at 22 each but
the Jr. Sting couldn’t find the net and the
Jr. Rangers were ready to pounce on any
rebounds that were given. The game was 1 –
0 after the first, 3 – 0 after the second
and 5 – 0 after three periods of hockey.
Brody Dummitt played well in net for the Jr.
Sting.
Sarnia Jr. Sting Defeat Woodstock 2 - 1
On Saturday January 19, 2008,
the Sarnia Minor Atom A’s travelled to
Woodstock to take on the Navy Jets and
defeated them by a score of 2 – 1.
The Jr. Sting didn’t start
out the game as expected, as Woodstock
managed to score 10 seconds into the game to
make it 1 – 0 for the Navy Jets. However,
the Jr. Sting regained their composure and
by the midpoint of the first period were
controlling most of the game. At the 4
minute mark of the 2nd period, in
a 3 on 2 rush, Justin Riley-Meyer skated
into the Navy Jets end and attempted a pass
to Tyler McLean that was deflected by the
Navy Jets’ defenseman. The deflected puck
managed to find Nic Day, who was trailing as
part of the 3 on 2 rush, in the slot where
he fired the puck to beat the Woodstock
goalie and tie the game at one a piece. At
the 9 minute mark of the 3rd
period, Justin Riley-Meyer intercepted a
Woodstock pass at the Navy Jets’ blue line
and rushed in beating one defender and the
Woodstock goalie with some nice deaks to
give the Jr. Sting the lead. With the score
2 – 1, the Navy Jets applied some pressure
and had a number of chances that were denied
as a result of some fantastic saves by Jr.
Sting goaltender Nicholas Coady. The Jr.
Sting held on and won the game 2 – 1 giving
them their 3rd win in “Seeded
Division” play.
Congratulations to all the
boys on a good game!
