Sarnia Jr. Sting Defeat Kitchener Jr.
Rangers 4 - 3
 |
The Jr. Sting
came out ready to play and
defeated the Kitchener Jr.
Rangers 4 – 3 to win their
second regular season game, this
time at home at Germain arena on
Sunday November 18, 2007. This
was the Jr. Sting’s second match
up against the Jr. Rangers and
the second time the Jr. Sting
defeated the Kitchener team. |
Just like the first game
against Kitchener, the first period action
was fast and exciting and displayed two
teams of similar strength. Each team traded
chances but again it was the Jr. Rangers who
opened up the scoring. At the 1 minute 19
second mark of the 1st period the
Jr. Sting got caught in a scramble in front
of their net which left a lone Jr. Rangers
forward to bang in the loose puck. The Jr.
Sting battled back hard and turned a Jr.
Ranger’s rush into a Jr. Sting goal after
Justin Riley-Meyer made an excellent back
checking hit that forced a turnover deep in
the Sarnia end.

Noah Murray
picked up the loose puck and
from behind the Jr. Sting’s net
placed a backhanded pass that
landed on Justin Riley-Meyer’s
stick on the right side of the
rink. Justin in turn passed the
puck to Tyler McLean who then
passed the puck to Noah Tardif
at centre ice. Noah tipped the
puck past the defending Jr.
Rangers and, with all kinds of
pressure on him, managed to pick
the top right hand corner of the
net to score the Jr. Sting’s
first goal of the game with only
2.5 seconds remaining in the 1st
period. |
Second period action was fast
and physical and both teams had plenty of
opportunities. However, the Jr. Sting got
the second goal of the game at the 2 minute
mark of the 2nd period when the
Jr. Sting executed a perfect breakout
pattern that saw a pass from Jarret Marks to
Noah Tardif then to Justin Riley-Meyer who
took the shot that gave a rebound to Tyler
McLean who made no mistake burying it over
the down and out Jr. Rangers’ goalie. The
second period closed with the Jr. Sting up 2
– 1. At the 14 minute mark of the 3rd
period the Jr. Sting added their third goal
when Tyler McLean collected a Jr. Ranger’s
turnover at the right offensive hash-mark
and placed a shot on net that beat the
screened Jr. Rangers’ goalie. The Jr. Sting
led 3 – 1 until the 3 minute mark of the 3rd
period when the Jr. Rangers got a break and
added their second mark for the game. The
rejuvenated Jr. Rangers added another goal
less than one minute later to tie the game 3
– 3. The Jr. Sting applied plenty of
pressure and it paid off as the Jr. Rangers
couldn’t clear the puck and Jarret Marks
took a shot from the blue line that bounced
in past the screened Jr. Rangers’ goalie
with only 26 seconds remaining in the game.
The game ended and the Jr. Sting collected
their second regular season win beating the
Jr. Rangers 4 – 3.
All of the Jr. Sting played
well including some excellent goaltending
from Nicholas Coady. The Sarnia Jr. Sting
Minor Atom A / AA coaching staff are very
pleased with all of the boys’ efforts. The
Jr. Sting showed some real team work during
this game.
