Sarnia Jr. Sting Defeated 7 – 1 by Brantford 99’ers

To mark the end of a disappointing weekend, the Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom A / AA hockey team were defeated by the Brantford 99’ers on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Germain Arena.

1St period play showed two teams of equal strength and desire.  Brantford opened up the scoring 30 seconds into the game when a 99’ers’ shot took a bad bounce off of one of the Jr. Stings sticks into the net.  However, this didn’t slow the Jr. Stings’ efforts as they battled hard with the 99’ers, each team trading end to end chances.  Sarnia’s efforts paid off at the 2 minute mark of the 1st period when Noah Murray cleared the defensive zone with a hard bank pass off the right side boards.  This end-clearing pass was picked up by Noah Tardif who managed to slip past the 99’ers defense to drive the net and attempt a deak on the goalie.  The Brantford goalie made the save but left a wide open rebound that was tapped in on a good follow up effort by Tyler McLean.  This made the score 1 – 1 and the 1st period ended.  The 99’ers scored their second goal early into the 2nd period but again the Jr. Sting didn’t give up and challenged Brantford for more goals but came up empty handed.  At the 5 minute mark of the 2nd period the 99’ers added their 3rd goal making it 3 – 1 for Brantford.  However it was the 99’ers fourth goal that seemed to demoralize the Jr. Sting.  From this point onward the Jr. Sting played timid and with less desire than the opposing 99’ers.  This allowed Brantford to add one more goal in the 2nd period before going on to add 2 more during the 3rd.  Final score ended with Brantford 7 Jr. Sting 1.

Although a disappointing weekend for the Jr. Sting, the coaching staff remain optimistic as there was some good play along with the bad and, based on game reviews, the bad play is something that can be corrected.
