Good Effort for Sarnia Jr.
Sting Minor Atom A/AA Despite 3 – 0 Loss
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor
Atom A/AA team was defeated by the Waterloo
Wolves on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at
Germain Arena by a score of 3 – 0. However,
the final score was not a good indication of
the Jr. Sting effort as many times
throughout the game the Wolves were on the
run.
The Wolves came out strong
and took charge of the game but the Jr.
Sting turned it around at the 5 minute mark
of the first period when Tyler McLean and
Lucas Banninga both made an open ice hit at
the offensive blue line that left an
unexpecting Wolves defenseman on the ice.
This play seemed to energize the Jr. Sting
and demoralize the Wolves as the Jr. Sting
kept the play in the Wolves end for the
remainder of the period but were unable to
capitalize on their many chances. The
second period started out with the Jr. Sting
in control but again the Jr. Sting just
could not capitalize. At the 5 minute mark
of the 2nd period the Wolves
quickly turned a Jr. Sting’s failed attempt
into a rush that crashed the right side of
the Jr. Sting’s net and provided the Wolves
with their first goal for the game. Both
teams battled hard and the period ended 1 –
0 for the Wolves. The 3rd period
started out with a strong Jr. Sting
controlling most of the play however, at the
13 minute mark Waterloo again turned another
Jr. Sting failed attempt into a rush that
provided the second goal for the game. The
remainder of the game showed two teams of
comparable strength and it wasn’t until the
3 minute mark of the 3rd period
that the Wolves added their 3rd
and final goal when the Jr. Sting had
trouble clearing the puck and a bad bounce
left an unattended Wolves offense man with
an open net. The Jr. Sting never gave up
and the game finished 3 – 0 for the Wolves.
Nicholas Coady played a strong game in net
for the Jr. Sting and the entire Jr. Sting
team played a good physical game with
special mention to Noah Tardif for his
efforts in physical dominance over Wolves’
players twice his size.
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor
Atom A/AA coaching staff is very proud of
the boys’ efforts and is encouraged by the
team play this game. With a little work we
will figure out how to put that puck in the
net and send the Wolves home with their tail
between their legs. Great Effort Boys!
