Good Start to Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom A/AA
Season
In their first
regular season match, the Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor
Atom A/AA team came out with a lot of heart and
desire and battled hard to tie the
Burlington Bulldogs 1 – 1. The exciting game showed nonstop
action from the initial drop of the puck all the
way to the last second.
Play was fast
and physical both ways and the larger Sting team
was short handed the majority of the second and
third periods. However, with superb goaltending
by Nicholas Coady and strong defensive support
from the Sting team, Sarnia shut down
Burlington’s offense until the 3 minute 30
second mark of the last period. With the Sting
at a 1 goal deficit, they continued to battle
hard, pulling their goalie with less than 2
minutes remaining, to try and tie it up.
Burlington had two opportunities to seal the
deal, but the Sting managed to keep the puck out
of their net to stay in the game. With 25
seconds remaining, Lucas Banninga turned
Burlington’s second opportunity around by
gaining possession of the puck and feeding a
pass up the ice to teammate Jack Soeder. Soeder
then placed a perfect pass on Jacob Caughlin’s
stick, who charged the net and picked the top
right hand corner to beat Burlington’s goalie
and tie the game at 1 apiece. The last 25
seconds of the third period provided Burlington
with more opportunities, but the resilient Sting
hung on to take a point for the game.
The Sarnia Jr.
Sting Minor Atom A/AA coaching staff couldn’t be
any more proud of the effort provided by all of
the Sting players during their first regular
season competition. |
