The Sarnia Jr. Sting played the Point Edward Blackhawks on
Sunday February 10th in an exhibition game at Clearwater
Arena. The two teams from the face off looked very evenly
matched with the Point Edward team coming on strong, but the
Jr.Sting's defense held strong, only allowing two shots on
net in the first period. And they did not allow the
Blackhawks to penetrate the blue line very often. Then the
offense took over with goals in the first period coming from
Keith Manery and Colin Osler with assists by Trevor Foresten
and Richard McIntosh. In the second period, and on the
power play Owen Gibson let one rip, in what was a beautiful
shot from the blue line, putting one in on the blocker side
of the Blackhawks goalie. Jakob Washington assisted him on
the goal. The fourth goal was a breakaway from Colin Osler,
a great heads up play. Strom Astolfi and Trevor Foresten
assisted him.
In the third period, Richard MacIntosh picked up the puck
after a scramble in front of the net and put it past the
Blackhawks net minder. Strom and Owen assisted Richards'
goal. With his third of the afternoon, Colin Osler picked up
the hat trick. Michael Pearce and Strom Astolfi assisted
him.
Trevor Foresten picked up his first goal of the year,
assisted by Jordan Pavey. Trevor had a great game; he had
two assists and a goal in this game.
In the first period, he played strong and was rewarded
for his effort. Also, Owen Gibson is coming into his own
with that wicked shot of his from the blue line. Jordan
Pavey and Keith Manery were also standouts in this game with
nice solid plays and some great passes out in front of the
net. Storm Astolfi had a good game as well with three
assists.
This game was a team win. As the team only allowed six
shots on net, two in each period. Three apiece for Noah and
Matt who split this game. Both goalies only saw limited
shots, but were solid when they were needed.
