The Sarnia Jr Sting
Midgets went to the semi-finals in tournament action
in Leamington recently.

In their
first game they went up against Saugeen
Shores and took the win with a final
score of 4 - 2. Action was
intense in the first period with neither
side scoring. In the second
Saugeen scored and took the 1 - 0 lead
heading into the third. In the
third period the flood gates opened for
the Sting as Andrew Blokzyl scored first
assisted by Chris Moore. Blokzyl
scored his second goal unassisted just
:08 seconds later. Jamie Schieman
earned a point when he dumped one in
assisted by Kyle Solness, then Blokzyl
scored his third for the hat trick and
to put the Sting up 4 - 1. JD
Gaulin and Cam Waters assisted on the
final goal. With 1:08 left on the
clock Saugeen put one in but it wasn't
enough as the Sting took the win with a
final score of 4 - 2. Mitch Core
was the winning netminder for the Sting. |
Game 2
wasn't as successful as Southpoint shut them out
with a final score of 4 - 0.

Game 3 saw
the Sting go up against Lasalle and turn
the tables once again to take the win
with a score of 4 - 1. Adam
Marshall scored assisted by JD Gaulin
and Kyle Solness to put the Sting up 1 -
0 after the first period. In the
second Sean Smith scored an unassisted
goal. Lasalle put one in with :50
seconds left in the period to narrow the
Sting lead to 2 - 1.

Insurance goals in the third by Andrew
Blokzyl from Cam Waters and Joe DelBen
and Chris Moore's unassisted goal gave
the Sting the win with a final score of
4 - 1. Mitch Core was in net for the
win.
With a 2 - 1 record it was enough to
move to the semi's. |
In the semi final game against Grimsby the Sting
were taken by surprised when Grimsby scored 3
quick goals near the end of the first period to
take a 3 - 0 lead. In the second Grimsby
added 3 more goals and and took a 6 - 0 lead
before Sam Murray scored with :51 seconds left
on the clock to put the Sting on the score
sheet. Assisting on Murray's goal was Sean
Smith.
Third period action
the Sting continued to play hard as Andrew Blokzyl
scored the Sting's second goal assisted by Cam
Waters, but the Grimsby team kept up the pressure
and added one more to finish the game taking the win
and sending the Sting home with a final score of 7 -
