Jr. Sting Minor MD-Atoms Battle Hard in
Burlington Tournament
The Jr. Sting minor MD-Atoms
traveled to Burlington to play in the 1st annual rep
MD/AE tournament from November 30th to December 2nd.
This was the Sting’s first tournament of the year.
Kitchener Jr Rangers
The Jr. Sting’s first game was
against the Kitchener Junior Rangers. Both teams wanted to start
the tournament with a win and the Sting came out playing
toe-to-toe with the Rangers. Midway through the first period the
Rangers made it 1-0 in a scramble in front of the Sting net. The
first period ended 2-0 in favour of the Rangers.
The second period showed a more
physical Sting team but they couldn’t capitalize on their
scoring opportunities. Eric Lange made some excellent saves to
keep the game at 2-0 after two periods of play.
The third period continued to have
the Sting pressing for their first goal and the defense was
working hard to not allow the Rangers close to the net. Midway
through the third, the Rangers had an opportunity when the Sting
could clear the puck from their zone and the Rangers extended
their lead to 3-0 and that’s how the game ended.
Cambridge Hawks
Sarnia’s second game of the
tournament was against the Cambridge Hawks. The Hawks began the
game aggressively and didn’t let up which had the Sting playing
defensively the entire game. The Hawks had a 5-0 lead by the end
of the first and they didn’t allow the Sting to make an
offensive stance.
The second period had the Jr. Sting
regrouping and they continued to fight and were able to hold the
Hawks to just one goal to make it 6-0 after two periods of play.
The third started the same as the
second ended but by the midway point of the period Cambridge
broke the wall and was able to get six more goals to make it
12-0 and end the game.
Brantford Saints
The Jr. Sting battled the Brantford
Saints, which saw Sarnia draw first blood at 7:35 in the first
period when Cameron Orrange got a power play goal to give the
Sting the lead. As in league play, the Jr. Sting never gave up
after coming off their lose to Cambridge a few hours earlier.
They were hitting hard and aggressively attacking the puck. The
Saints were able to get a goal near the end of the period to
make it 1-1 after one period of play.
The second period saw the Sting
continue to hit which gave them some excellent scoring
opportunities early but they couldn’t capitalize. Midway through
the period, Brantford was able to take the lead on a power play
and then was able to extend their lead on a screen shot to make
it 3-1. The period ended 4-1 in Brantford’s favour.
The third period saw the Sting lose
a bit of steam and Brantford was able to get two more goals to
end the game at 6-1.
The Jr.Sting’s next game is on
Friday, Dec7th versus Stratford @ 7:00pm at the Clearwater
arena. |
