Santa Comes Early for the Jr.Sting Minor MD Atoms

-Win 4-3 versus West London-

The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms won their first game of the season 4-3, in a hard fought battle against the West London Hawks in Forest City hockey league action.

Sarnia caught the Hawks off guard by starting the game hitting hard and going after the puck. The Jr.Sting forced the play by pushing the puck deep into the West London zone but their goalie came up with some big saves to keep the Jr.Sting off the board and any attempts from the Hawks to get near the Sting goal was neutralized by the defense. Sarnia had one power play opportunity in the period but couldn’t capitalize and the period ended tied at 0-0.

The Jr.Sting continued to play their game by attacking the puck and trying to keep it deep into the West London zone. Eric Lange came up big when needed to keep the game at zero with the defense playing excellent and not giving the Hawks many opportunities to get close. Near the end of the period, Jacob Williams got things rolling when he broke lose from a crowd and got a breakaway to make it 1-0 for the Sting.

With the game close, both teams came out in the third wanting the win and play was hard hitting. The Sting extended their lead early when Cameron Orrange scored off an Aleah Boersma pass to make it 2-0. The Hawks finally were able to get on the board when they scored in a scramble in front of the Sting net to keep the game close. Sarnia didn’t let up and immediately retaliated 7 seconds later with their own goal, when Cameron Orrange got his second goal of the game when he drove the puck directly from the face-off to make it 3-1. The last half of the period got very physical with three penalties being called in the last 5 minutes of the game. The Hawks were able to make it 3-2 but as before the Sting didn’t let up and made West London pay when on a power play opportunity, Kasen Sebben made it 4-2 with an assist going to Cameron Orrange. Eric Lange continued to play excellent in net with the Hawks added pressure and the game ended 4-3 in the Jr.Stings favour.

The Jr. Sting’s next game is against the Stratford on Saturday January 5th @ 4:00pm at the Allman arena in Stratford.
