Nathan Speed Leads Jr. Sting Minor MD
Atoms
To A 2-2 Tie
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms hosted
the West London Hawks and tied 2-2 in Forest City hockey league
action.
The Sting came out hard from the
start and they were very aggressive for the puck. The defense of
Pagatto, Greenaway, Wadden, Williams and McDonald played a very
physical game and kept the Hawks well away from the Sting net.
Sarnia had some great scoring opportunities but they just
couldn’t capitalize on the chances and the period ended 0-0.
The Hawks got a break early in the
second to take a 1-0 lead. The Jr. Sting continued to play hard
and were skating very well. Even though they were pushing hard
into the Hawks zone, the Sting just couldn’t get a break to tie
the game. Lucas Cicchelli played great in net, keeping the Sting
close with the period ending 1-0 for West London.
The Sting’s hard work paid off early
in the third when Cody Nicholaisen made a pass from a face-off
in the Hawks zone to Nathan Speed who scored his first of the
game to tie it up at 1-1. The Sting dominated play in the third
and kept the puck in the Hawks zone. Sarnia took advantage of a
power play opportunity when in a scramble in front of the net,
Nathan Speed knocked in the puck for his second of the game to
take a 2-1 lead. In the last two minutes of the game, the Hawks
pulled their goalie and were able to tie the game with 50
seconds remaining to end the game 2-2.
The Jr. Sting’s next game is against
the North London on Tuesday February 26th @ 6:30pm at the
Carling Center in London.
