Cicchelli Gets Shutout in Jr. Sting
Minor MD Atoms Win
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms
travelled to London to play the West London Hawks in Forest City
hockey league action and won 1-0 in a hard fought battle.
The Jr.Sting’s play of late has been
aggressive and this game was no different. Sarnia started the
period digging hard which caught the Hawks a little of guard.
Play was end-to-end with both teams getting scoring
opportunities but neither team could get one by either goalie.
The Sting’s late period power play opportunity came without a
goal and the period ended 0-0.
The second period saw the Jr. Sting
get into penalty trouble but Sarnia didn’t let the Hawks set up
and get the lead on their man advantage. Cicchelli came up big
and the defense never gave the West London forwards any second
shots to keep the game at zero. Play continued to be end-end
with both teams playing well. The end of the second saw Sarnia
pushing hard into the Hawks end but they just couldn’t get a
break or get one past the Hawks goaltending. The second ended in
a 0-0 tie.
The third period saw Cicchelli
shine, making some excellent saves and shutting the door on any
of the Hawks advances. All the hard work and digging finally
paid off when Cameron Orrange was able to jam the puck in past
the Hawks goaltender to give Sarnia the 1-0 lead, with Aleah
Boersma and Cody Nicolaisen getting assists. With a lead, the
Jr. Sting were not going to give it up easily as the Hawks
continued to fight but the Sarnia defense and the great play of
Cicchelli allowed the Sting to get the victory.
The Jr. Sting’s next game is against
the Oakridge Aero’s on Friday February 29th @ 7:00pm at the
Clearwater Arena.
