Jr. Sting Minor MD Atoms Have
Good Showing in Loss
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms hosted
the Oakridge Aeros in Forest City hockey league action and even
though they had a good showing they couldn’t get the breaks and
lost 4-1.
The Sting came out of the gate
aggressively and looking for a win. Early in the period Jonathan
Boccanfuso got the Sting on the board when he jammed in the puck
in a scramble in front of the Aero’s net to give Sarnia a 1-0
lead with Nathan Speed getting the assist. The Aero’s retaliated
mid-way through the period when they had a shot from the blue
line deflected to tie it at 1-1. The Sting pushed hard and even
had a power play opportunity but they could get the lead back
and the period ended 1-1.
The second period didn’t start well
for the Sting when they couldn’t clear the puck out of the zone
and the Aero’s made them pay to take a 2-1 lead. The Sting
didn’t give up and they put good pressure causing them to have
some good scoring chances on the Aero’s but they couldn’t get
the tying goal. Mid-way through the period Oakridge was able to
extend their led on a wrap-around shot from behind the net that
caught the Sting off- guard to take a 3-1 lead. Sarnia continued
to work hard and play was end-to-end but the period ended 3-1
for the Aero’s.
Eric Lange played an important role
in keeping the Jr Sting close to the Aero’s. Both teams got into
penalty trouble in the third but neither team could get past the
defense. The Jr.Sting couldn’t get a good flow going to make a
strong offensive push to catch Oakridge. Late in the period
Oakridge was able to make it 4-1 off a rebound to end the game.
The Jr. Sting’s next game is against
the Stratford Warriors on Friday March 7th @ 7:00pm at the
Clearwater Arena.
