Minor MD Atoms Travel to Play Division Leaders
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms
traveled to London to play the division leaders North London
Nationals and lost 4-0 in Forest City hockey league action.
Sarnia started the game playing the
division leaders defensively. The Nationals pressed the Sting
hard but the Stings defensive play would not let the Nationals
get close to the Sarnia net. The first period was hard-hitting
and aggressive with the Nationals keeping play in the Sting
zone. Mid-way through the period, North London was able to get a
break when they scored off a players skate to make it 1-0. The
second half of the period saw play get rough and four penalties
were called with the Nationals capitalizing on one of their
power plays to make it 2-0 to end the period.
The second period continued with the
hard-hitting action. Eric Lange made some key saves against the
division leaders to keep the score close and the defense battled
hard in the corners. The Sting was able to move the puck into
the Nationals zone but their defense insured Sarnia received no
second opportunities. Mid-way through the second the Nationals
were able to increase their lead to 3-0.
The Jr.Sting continued to play the
Nationals head-to-head, and as the period progressed, they
continued to get more scoring opportunities. They continued to
battle hard and never gave up to a more physical North London
team. The Nationals increased their lead mid-way through the
period and the game ended 4-0.
