Jr. Sting Minor MD Atoms Take a Tough Loss

The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms traveled to Stratford to play the Warriors and lost 5-3 in Forest City hockey league action which the Sting come back from a 3-0 deficit to tie it but they couldn’t hold on.

After a long drive and holiday layoff, the first period saw the Jr Sting a bit slow out of the gate. The Warriors struck first on a screen shot to take an early 1-0 lead. Sarnia seemed to gain momentum as the period went on and saw them start to get some good scoring opportunities. The score was 1-0 after one period of play.

The Warriors continued to pressure the Jr.Sting and Lucas Cicchelli came up with some big saves to keep the game within reach. The Jr. Sting were passing the puck well but the Warriors defense were not letting the Sting close to the net. Stratford was able to make it 2-0 before the period ended.

The start of the third period continued to see the Warriors have control of the game and they were able to make it 3-0 when a puck hit off a skate and went in. When it looked over for the Sting, they continued with their hard work ethic and Christiano Pagotto got the Sting rolling to make it 3-1 when he pinched in from the defensive position with assists going to Vanessa Wardell and Aleah Boersma. With Sarnia gaining momentum fast, Nicolaisen scored from Sebben and Greenaway passes from the face-off to make it 3-2. The Sting weren’t done when Nathan Speed put the puck in the top right corner to tie the game at 3-3 with Matt MacDonald and Brody Jordan receiving assists.  The Warriors were able to get the lead back when the Sting defense got caught pinching in and allowed the Warriors to get a breakaway. Stratford continued to push and were able to make it 5-3 before the game ended.

The Jr. Sting’s next game is against the North London Nationals on Tuesday January 15th @ 7:00pm at the Carling Arena in London.
