Jr. Sting Minor MD Atoms Take a Tough Loss
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms
traveled to Stratford to play the Warriors and lost 5-3 in
Forest City hockey league action which the Sting come back from
a 3-0 deficit to tie it but they couldn’t hold on.
After a long drive and holiday
layoff, the first period saw the Jr Sting a bit slow out of the
gate. The Warriors struck first on a screen shot to take an
early 1-0 lead. Sarnia seemed to gain momentum as the period
went on and saw them start to get some good scoring
opportunities. The score was 1-0 after one period of play.
The Warriors continued to pressure
the Jr.Sting and Lucas Cicchelli came up with some big saves to
keep the game within reach. The Jr. Sting were passing the puck
well but the Warriors defense were not letting the Sting close
to the net. Stratford was able to make it 2-0 before the period
ended.
The start of the third period
continued to see the Warriors have control of the game and they
were able to make it 3-0 when a puck hit off a skate and went
in. When it looked over for the Sting, they continued with their
hard work ethic and Christiano Pagotto got the Sting rolling to
make it 3-1 when he pinched in from the defensive position with
assists going to Vanessa Wardell and Aleah Boersma. With Sarnia
gaining momentum fast, Nicolaisen scored from Sebben and
Greenaway passes from the face-off to make it 3-2. The Sting
weren’t done when Nathan Speed put the puck in the top right
corner to tie the game at 3-3 with Matt MacDonald and Brody
Jordan receiving assists. The Warriors were able to get the
lead back when the Sting defense got caught pinching in and
allowed the Warriors to get a breakaway. Stratford continued to
push and were able to make it 5-3 before the game ended.
The Jr. Sting’s next game is against
the North London Nationals on Tuesday January 15th @ 7:00pm at
the Carling Arena in London.
