Final Game of Season Sees Strong
Performance by Jr. Sting Minor MD Atoms
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms hosted
the Stratford Warriors in Forest City hockey league action and
had a strong showing but lost 3-2 in the final minutes of the
game to end the regular season.
The Jr.Sting have had strong
showings in the last part of the season and going into the final
game of the season, really wanted a win going into the playoffs.
The first period saw an aggressive Sting team digging hard and
pushing play deep into the Warriors end. Both teams had some
good opportunities with both goalies coming up big to keep the
period at 0-0.
The second period was similar to the
first with Eric Lange playing great in net and the Sarnia
defense ensuring the Warriors didn’t get close to the net. Both
teams battled hard to get the first goal of the game and the
Sting drew first late in the period when Max Steeves banged in a
goal off a Liam Wadden pass to give Sarnia a 1-0 lead.
With the Sting up by a goal and the
Warriors trying to tie it up, the action was very intense with
both teams hitting hard and digging for the puck. Mid-way
through the period, Sarnia extended their lead to 2-0 when
Nathan Speed scored off a Jacob Williams pass. Stratford
retaliated one minute later to keep the game close and make it a
2-1 game. In the last minutes of the game the Jr. Sting seemed
to have lost steam and Stratford took control. The Warriors were
able to tie the game and then get the game winner with two
minutes left to win the game 3-2.
