Jr. Sting Minor MD Atoms Lose Playoff Opener
March 16, 2008
The Jr. Sting minor MD Atoms
traveled to London to play the West London Hawks in their first
of a best of three playoff series and lost 4-0 in Forest City
hockey playoff action.
Both teams came out hard and action
was end-to-end early in the game with both teams trying to get
the first win of the series. Mid-way through the period the
Jr.Sting had a man advantage on a power play opportunity and
they moved and passed the puck well but couldn’t capitalize. The
period ended 0-0.
The second started very well for the
Sting and the defensive teams of Jordan/Orrange and Pagatto/Wadden
shined by pushing the Hawks to the boards and not letting them
in close to the net. Lucas Cicchelli came up big when needed in
net. Late in the period the Hawks were able to get close to the
net and in a scramble were able to bang the puck in to make it
1-0 to end the second.
Penalties hurt the Jr. Sting in the
early part of the third with the Sting getting four in the third
period. West London would make Sarnia pay when Sarnia was down
two players to extend their lead to 2-0. Midway through the
period the Hawks got lucky when the Sting had trouble clearing
the puck to make it 3-0. Sarnia continued to push hard but being
short for a good portion of the period began to show. With two
minutes left, Sarnia pulled their goalie and West London was
able to get one more goal before the game ended 4-0 in the Hawks
favour.
The next game of this playoff series
is on Thursday, March 20th at 6:30pm at the Germain
Arena. |
