Jr.Sting MD-Atoms Battle to a 4-2 Loss
November 21, 2007
The Jr.Sting MD minor Atoms battled
hard but were defeated 4-2 against the West London Hawks in
Forest City hockey league action.
Both teams came out wanting the
first goal with the period beginning with some good hits being
made. At the 7 minute mark of the period, Sarnia couldn’t clear
a rebound and London took advantage of the opportunity to make
it 1-0. With a one goal lead West London began to press harder
and Lucas Cicchelli came up with some big saves. The Hawks were
able to make it 2-0 before the period ended.
The second period saw Sarnia regain
their composure and they began pelting the London goaltender
with shots. Both Cicchelli and the Hawks goalie came up big to
keep their teams in the game. Midway through the period, Sarnia
began to press hard and with a scramble in front of the Hawks
net, Matthew MacDonald banged in Sarnia’s first goal to make it
2-1, with an assist going to Kasen Sebben. The period ended 2-1
in favour of the Hawks.
As in the previous game, the
Jr.Sting didn’t give up and pushed the play in the London zone.
With some good stick handling, Ryan Greenaway got a breakaway at
the 10 minute mark of the period and scored to tie the game at
2-2. Both teams wanted the win and play was end-to-end. With 5
minutes remaining in the period, West London was able to take
advantage of a power play to take a 3-2 lead. Sarnia continued
to drive hard to the London zone but the Hawks goalie closed the
door with the game ending 4-2 for West London.
The Jr.Sting’s next game is versus
the Oakridge Aero’s on Friday November 23rd @ 7:00pm at the
Clearwater arena.
