Jr Sting Atom MD’s Lose a Nail Bitter
The Sarnia Minor Atom MD team
travelled to London to play the West London Hawks at the Kinsmen
arena to start the season and battled to a 3-2 loss.
In their first league game the
junior Sting came out of the gates with a slow start when London
scored just 36 seconds into the game to make it 1-0. Sarnia
showed character by quickly regrouping and tying the game one
minute later when Cameron Orrange scored from a Nolan Coats
pass. The remaining part of the period was a defensive battle
with each team trying to get into a rhythm with the period
ending at a 1-1 tie.
The second period saw the Sting
start to become more aggressive and they forced the play into
the London zone. The Sarnia defense played well and didn’t allow
London any second opportunities. The game remained at 1-1 until
the two-minute mark when the Hawks capitalized on a Sarnia
moment of weakness and scored two goals within a 1- minute time
frame. The period ended 3-1 in the Hawks favour.
The third period showed that Sarnia
would not play dead and again the Sting forced the London Hawks
to play mainly in their own zone. Sarnia’s continued pressure
allowed Daniel Mussio to score unassisted to make the game 3-2
at the 13 minute mark. The Sting defense anchored the team in
the third period with goalie Eric Lange shutting down the Hawks.
With a minute left, the Sting pulled their goalie to go to an
extra attacker but couldn’t capitalize to suffer their first
loss.
The Jr. Sting’s next game will be
their home opener on Friday, October 19th at
Clearwater arena at 7pm.
