Oakridge Classic Tournament Champs
London, Ontario
February 15 - 17, 2008

The Sarnia Junior Sting Minor Peewee MD Team won their second tournament of the year at the Oakridge Classic Tournament in London in the A/MD Division.

Sarnia started the weekend with a 4-1 win over Orleans (Ottawa), defeated Kingston 8-2 but would lose to Oakridge 4-3 on Saturday Night.  Oakridge was undefeated in the tournament and would finish ahead on the Junior Sting in Pool A.  On Sunday Morning in the semi-finals Sarnia faced the first place team from Pool B, London’s LMHA who were also undefeated in round robin play.  Sarnia played one of their best games of the tournament in a 4-0 win with Scott Gray in net.

The championship game would be a rematch between Oakridge and Sarnia.  Oakridge advanced with a 3-0 win over Windsor Riverside.  During the tournament the only team that had managed score against Oakridge was Sarnia, and the only team that beat Sarnia was Oakridge so the stage was set for an exciting championship game.  In a game that saw numerous lead changes Sarnia took a 1-0 lead, only to have Oakridge come back and tie the game Oakridge would tie the game at 2-2 and then jump ahead to a 3-2 lead. With 6 minutes left Sarnia tied the score a 3-3 and a minute later, on his 2nd goal of the game Tyler Groulx would give the Junior Sting a 4-3 lead.  Sarnia would hang on for tbe 4-3 win, shocking the Oakridge Aero’s to claim the title.

In three tournaments this year the Minor Peewee MD team has won 2, Mooretown and London and finished second in Kitchener.  It was an outstanding effort from the entire team lead by Roan Mackay and Scott Gray in net.
