Novice Tier 1 lose at home to Oakridge

Dec. 20/07

The Novice Tier 1 faced the Oakridge Aeros at the Clearwater arena this past Thursday, and unfortunately found themselves on the short end of a 3-2 game.

The Sting came out with early pressure getting many chances on the Oakridge goalie but just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.  Finally, the Sting did pop one in but the ref claimed that he blew the play dead, so the score remained even at zeros.  While shorthanded, Max Steeves carried the puck around the Oakridge net and centred a pass to Dante Fuoco who finished the play to put the Sting up
1-0.

In the second period, the Sting went up 2-0 with goal from Ryan Brown assisted by Cameron Adam and Brett Allardyce.  The Sting must have felt comfortable with there lead because their positional play started to become sloppy and back checking effort tailed off.  The result was 3 unanswered goals by Oakridge, including one which was a 4 on 1.

The 3rd period the boys got back into the game and controlled most of the play but just couldn’t get the tying goal.  To little too late.

Good work in 2 periods boys, but this game proves that you have to play hard in all 3 periods even when you are the better team.

Novice Tier 1 beat Woodstock Again!

Dec. 22, 07

The Novice Tier 1 team met Woodstock for four time Saturday at the Germain arena and beat them for the 3rd consecutive time.  The final result was 6-3.

In the 1st period the Sting were buzzing around the net and had many scoring opportunities including a nice wrist shot that rang off the crossbar.  Despite great chances the score remained 0-0 after the 1st.

In the second, Woodstock opened the scoring with a power play goal and took a 1-0 lead.  The score would stay this way until 2:24 left in the period, when off the face off, Cameron Adam jumped in the circle and tipped the puck that strangely found its way into the net.  Thirty seconds later, Ryan Brown dished the puck off to Cameron Adam who streaked down the right wing and made a great tape to tape pass to Jameson Hart who made a perfect shot that caught the goalie going the wrong way.  Finally at 1:24, Max Steeves fooled the Woodstock goalie with a good wraparound, assisted by Cameron Rannie, which completed the 3 goals in 1 minute and put the boys up 3-1 going into the 3rd period.

To start the 3rd Woodstock scored an early goal but the Sting responded quickly with a power play goal by Dante Fuoco assisted by Jacob Williams.  The following power play, unfortunately resulted in a Woodstock shorthanded goal to make it a 4-3 game.  Then it was Woodstock’s turn to be on the power play, and in turn Sting would return the favour of scoring a shorthanded goal.  It was Cameron Adam who put a high backhand shot over the shoulder of the goalie assisted by Ryan Brown.  To round off the scoring it was Nic Discanno, again shorthanded, from Brayden Groulx and Ben Schoch.

Hats off to Jordan Marks, who played great defensively and showed great work ethic and grit.  Great game guys, lets carry this win into the upcoming Gretzky tournament.
