Novice
Tier 1 vs. Mooretown
Exhibition January 5,
2008
Sarnia
Novice Tier 1 had Mooretown Storm come
to Germain
Arena for an exhibition game rematch.
Despite, playing well, Mooretown were
able to squeak by with a 5-4 win.
The game did
not start well as Mooretown were able to
score 2 quick goals within the first 3
minutes of the period. By midway
through the boys settled down and played
better. The period ended 2-0.
Early in the
2nd, Max Steeves skated down
the left side and took a quick shot that
found the top of the net. The assist
went to Brayden
Groulx. Later in the period Ryan Brown
made a great individual play through the
Mooretown zone and took a great wrist
shot that rang off the crossbar and in.
Mooretown regained the lead however, and
the period ended 3-2.
The 3rd
period started with another Mooretown
goal putting the score at 4-2. Sarnia
was then able to gain some momentum
putting together a string of good
shifts. This hard work resulted in 2
goals. The first by Jameson Hart,
assisted by Ryan Brown and the second by
Ryan Brown, assisted by Dylan Schroeter,
to tie the game at 4 a piece. With 35
seconds remaining Mooretown were able to
find the net with what seemed to be a
harmless shot making it 5-4. The goalie
was pulled but we were unable to get the
equalizer.
This was a
solid effort boys and a game that we
could have easily gone our way.
Sarnia Tier 1 vs. West London
January
7, 2008
The
Novice Tier 1 team traveled to
London Monday night to take on the
West London Hawks. This was a great
defensive tilt that ended with
London just edging out a 2-1
victory.
Things
did not start well for the team as
the Hawks got a quick goal as a
result of an unfortunate deflection
off the skate of one of our
players. A short time later London
would build a 2-0 lead off a
scramble in front of the net that
barely made it past the goal line.
There was some question from some
fans of whether the referee should
have blown the play dead earlier but
the goal counted. With 18 seconds
left in the 1st period
Ryan Brown was able to shovel the
puck pass the Hawks goalie, assisted
by Cameron Adam and Marcus Cossa, to
make it 2-1.
The 2nd
and 3rd periods were
played pretty evenly with no team
able score anymore goals. The boys
played a very good defensive game,
which was led by our defensive corp.
of Ben Schoch, Nash Nienhuis, Jordan
Marks, Brayden
Groulx and Brett Allardyce. Patrick
Kelly played another solid game
between the pipes.
Despite
the loss, I believe the team is
getting better defensively. The
goals will come boys…remember it is
easier to win if you only let a
couple in each game.
