Playoffs Begin:
Game 1 Sarnia Novice
vs. LMHA
March 17, 2008
The Sting opened
their playoffs in
London versus LMHA
Thunder on Monday
night with only a
day rest from
tournament play in
Welland.
In the first period
the Sting carried
most of the play,
controlling the puck
in the neutral zone
and keeping the
Thunder pinned.
Despite controlling
the play the boys
were unable to
generate many shots
on net. Not until
Max Steeves, while
being shorthanded,
scored unassisted
with a shot that hit
a defensemen skated
and fooled the
goalie.
In the second period
the Thunder started
gaining some
momentum and began
winning some battles
for the puck. The
Sting were able to
hang on to the end
of the period
keeping the score
1-0.
In the 3rd
period, the Sting
started running into
penalty trouble.
This cost the team
dearly, as the
Thunder not only
were able to score a
power play goal but
more importantly the
Sting lost all their
rhythm. LMHA were
able to manufacture
3 more goals in the
period and came away
with the win 4-1.
Next game they are
in our barn and we
are confident that
it will be a
different result.
