Sarnia Novice Tier 1 vs. Woodstock: A Rivalry Born!
October 27, 2007
This past
Saturday the Sarnia Novice Tier 1 faced Woodstock in there first
of two meetings at the Germain arena. This game turned out to
be quite physical and high in emotions.
The first period
started out well for the Sting as it took only 21 seconds for
them to make it 1-0. Some great work on the boards eventually
led to a great effort by Jameson Hart who rifled one into the
net. Woodstock, quickly responded however, to tie it 1-1.
Later in the period Woodstock would be on their first of many
powerplays in this game, but the Sting stood strong and kept it
a draw going into the 2nd period.
The second period
unfortunately was played almost entirely shorthanded, including
at least two 5 on 3’s. Despite this, Ryan Brown was able to
score a shorthanded goal, started by a great rush by Brett
Allardyce, with a funny floater shot that fooled the Woodstock
goalie to make it 2-1. However, being shorthanded this amount
of time eventually proved to be very costly for the Sting, as
they were unable gain any momentum, but instead were always
scrambling to clear the zone. Woodstock were able to score 4
goals in this period and make it 5-2 by the end of the period.
The third was a
continuation of the 2nd period with more penalties.
Even though scoring 1 more goal on the powerplay, the Sting
limited Woodstock's chances with excellent defensive play and
some real quality saves from Hendrik Lindhout.
The result was
6-2 in Woodstock's favour, in a game that gave little chance for
the Sting to build any offensive threat, which we all know we
have. The bright side of this game was a much improved
defensive play by the team, led by all 6 of our D who did a
better job taking away the middle of the ice.
Sarnia Novice Tier 1
vs. Woodstock Part 2: Sweet Revenge!
October 28, 2007
The second
game in as many days at the Germain
arena between Sarnia and Woodstock
turned out to be just as high in
emotion, but with a better result as was
predicted. Sarnia got sweet revenge on
the team from Woodstock pounding them
9-4.
The first
period started with Woodstock getting on
the board quickly within the first
minute. The Sting would later tie it up
with a good pass from Ben Schoch to Nic
Discanno who drove to the net and buried
it. The period continued with some
great defensive plays again by the
Sting. By the end of the period the
teams exchange goals to make it 2-2.
Scoring for Sarnia was Cameron Rannie
(his first of 3), assisted by Jacob
Williams and Dylan Schroeter.
The second
period was all Sting. Unlike the
previous game they stayed out of the
penalty box and were able to mount some
good offensive by scoring 4 goals.
First it was Ryan Brown who found a
hole, assisted by Brett Allardyce and
Cameron Adam. Next was Max Steeves, who
scored a great shorthanded one, assisted
by Cameron Rannie. Then the boys
exchanged spots as it was Cameron Rannie
who found the cage, from linemate Max
Steeves. Thirty seconds, Max Steeves
would score again, and you guess it
assisted by Cameron Rannie. Woodstock
had limited chances but did get a couple
of good shots away, but Patrick Kelly
did not let his team down, making some
key saves. At the end of the period it
was 6-2.
The third
period started again with an early goal,
this time by Cameron Rannie for his hat
trick… Ryan Brown took a high wrist shot
from an odd angle, which landed in the
crease and Rannie was able to bang it
home. For most of the third period
Sting were content with making sure
Woodstock did not mount a comeback, this
was not possible would out great efforts
of the defensive corp of Nienhuis,
Schoch, Williams, Allardyce, Groulx, and
Marks. In the closing minutes, Cameron
Adam was able to break from pack and
scored on the breakaway, assisted by
Jameson Hart and Ryan Brown. Thirty
seconds later, to add insult to injury,
Dante Fuoco left alone in front of the
net made no mistake for the 9th
goal, assisted by Rannie and Schroeter.
Sweet
revenge! The game ended 9-4 in an
excellent effort by the entire team and
is the first league win of the season.
Hats off to Cameron Rannie who was on
fire, with 3 goals and 3 assists.
Great win
boys lets keep up that great defensive
play!
