Knowles shines
between the pipes against Oakridge
December 15,
2007
The Sarnia Jr.
Sting Novice MD Tier 2 team played host to
the Oakridge Aeros Saturday afternoon at
Clearwater Arena. This was a return match
between these two teams as they had squared
off against each other earlier in the week
in London.
Maybe the change
in venue for the host team was just
what Coach Todd had ordered as the boys came
out fired up and ready to take it to the
Aeros. Jakob Knowles was between the pipes
for the Sting and made several key saves
during the game including a "TSN turning
point" highlight save that had all the fans
cheering. He made a spectacular blocker
save off a faceoff late in the second
period.
Play in the 1st
period was very close as both teams
exchanged great scoring chances but neither
was able to get on the scoreboard, therefore
the score remained scoreless heading into
the 2nd. Nolan DeGurse was finally able to
put one past the Aeros goalie on a pass off
the stick of Dawson Young. Although been
out shot, the Sting did hold the 1-0 lead
into the 3rd. Lucas Knowles put his team up
by two on a nice goal early in the period.
Collecting the assist was Carson Payne.
Just over 2 minutes later, the Aeros were
able to put one past Jakob to make it a 2-1
game. The Sting continued to press but once
again the Aeros found the back of the net to
tie the game at 2. Finding themselves in
penalty trouble, but determined not to give
up, the black and yellow were successful in
killing off a 5 on 3 and keep the Aeros from
taking the lead. With 23 seconds remaining
in the game, Jakob Knowles made a BIG LEAGUE
glove save to secure the tie for his team.
With 6 seconds remaining in the game and the
face off deep in Sarnia's zone, the Aeros
pulled their goalie for the extra attacker
put were unable to beat Knowles. Final score
2-2 tie. Shots on net 25-10 in favour of the
Aeros.
Great effort
boys and congrats on tying one of the top
teams in the league. The team was to play
host to SSE Wild Sunday afternoon, but the
game was cancelled due to the severe
weather.
Next action is
Tuesday, December 18th at 6:00 pm when they
travel to Carling Arena to take on North
London Nationals.
