Sting have short
bench in Woodstock
December 22,
2007
The Sarnia Jr.
Sting Novice MD Tier 2 team travelled to
Woodstock to take on the Jr. Navy Vets,
Saturday afternoon. Although they had
a short bench (due to family
commitments/functions), the boys put forth a
great effort. They adjusted well to the
change in line combinations but were unable
to get the win.
Jakob Knowles
had the start for his team and played well.
Woodstock opened the scoring at 4:51of the
first period. Action continued into the
second and with a scramble in front of the
Woodstock net, a Vet player covered the puck
in the grease and the Sting were awarded a
penalty shot. Lucas Knowles was given the
chance to tie the game. He had a good shot
in the attempt but the Woodstock goalie was
able to get a piece of it. Not to be out
done, on the very next play, with the
faceoff deep in the Woodstock zone, Curtis
Marks won the draw, pulled the puck back to
Lucas and he put it in the back of the net
to tie the game. Score 1-1 at the end of the
second.
The Sting were
able to go ahead at 8:56 in the third by a
goal off the stick of Dawson Young.
Collecting assists were Nolan DeGurse and
Ryan Gould. The Vets would tie the game at
7:29.
Running out of
gas, the Sting found themselves down by one
at 5:55 when the Vets were able to score
again to make it 3-2. With 3:51 remaining,
a Vet player was called for a penalty.
Sarnia was unable to tie the game. With 45
seconds remaining in the game, Jakob was
pulled for the "extra man" but the Vets were
able to score the empty net goal to win the
game 4-2. A great effort boys.
The Sting now
enjoy Christmas with their families and
prepare to participate in their first
tournament of the year. They are heading to
Cambridge Dec. 27th and 28th to participate
in the 41stAnnual H.M.H.A Olympics
Tournament. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
